The instructions that came with your Fi2000 can answer most of your questions. If you have lost or misplaced them, you can download them here on this web site. Simply find your bike in the fuel management section, select your particular Fi2000, and click on the instruction icon. It will download a PDF version that you can open. Below are some of the most asked questions we get.
But first, the answer to the most common question we get regarding fuel injection and rejetting is this:
Yes, you should re-jet your carburetor equipped bike with a jet kit or re-tune your fuel-injected bike with a Fi2000 when you add an aftermarket exhaust system.
Here's why:
By adding a freer flowing exhaust, or air filter or both, the air fuel ratio becomes even leaner. The motorcycle will exhibit conditions such as backfiring on deceleration, an uneven idle or surging at constant throttle settings. This lean condition can also make your engine run noticeably hotter.
Don't let your resident neighborhood expert tell you that that's the nature of an aftermarket system or a certain manufacturer's pipes. Poor performance as we've discussed above is a result of an incorrect air-fuel mixture, not a pipe.
In most cases, re-jetting (for carburetors) or adding an Fi2000 for fuel injected models will correct these conditions by optimizing the air-fuel ratio and allow the motorcycle to reach its performance potential.
If you no longer have the instructions that came with your jet kit or Fi2000, you can download a new set from our web site. Just go to your bike, and click the fuel management tab. Select the product and you will be able to access the instructions. Most of your questions can be answered there.
California residents should select the units approved for their state. These models take all the guesswork out by tuning automatically. And yes residents of other states can use this unit as well. They perform flawlessly.
California Models
The industry's best electronic fuel management system is approved for sale in California. The California Fi2000R-ARB fits fuel-injected Harley-Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha and Victory motorcycles. The new models are available for both closed loop and open loop applications, and are legal for sale and use in California.
The Fi2000R ARB units are model specific and arrive preset for each bike. Each uses OEM-style connectors for easy installation. Like the Fi2000R available in the other 49 states, the Fi2000R-ARB corrects for lean air fuel mixtures under acceleration and load, and at full throttle applications.
To meet California standards it does not, however, adjust for those conditions while in cruise mode. Nor does it allow the user to adjust the unit in any way.
California residents should purchase the Fi2000R ARB, which is approved for sale in California. ARB E.O. No. D-633-1
What is the difference between the Fi2000, Fi2000R, Fi2000R-CL, and the Fi2000R-CL-50?
The difference between the Fi2000 and the other units is how it connects. The Fi2000 uses t-tap connectors that tie into the injector wires between the Engine Control Units (ECU) and the injector bodies, rather than OEM style connectors that connect directly with the injector bodies. Otherwise it functions the same as the Fi2000R.
The units designated CL are to be used with motorcycles equipped with oxygen sensors in the exhaust pipes. These units make use of the stock oxygen sensor technology to optimize the fuel mixture during cruise situations.
The Fi2000R-CL-50 is the model to be used by California buyers. It functions much like the other units but has no adjustments. This is mandated by the California Air Resources Board, the organization that determines the California emission standards.
Do I need to run my bike on a dyno after I have the Fi2000 installed? No. We do all the dyno work on our end and program those settings into the unit itself. That's why the Fi2000s are all brand and model specific.
Is the Fi2000 adjustable? Every version of the Fi2000 with the exception of the Fi2000R-CL-50 which is for California riders, is adjustable. But remember each unit comes preset which mean for 95% of riders out there, it should not need to be adjusted.
Is the Fi2000 bike specific, or pipe specific? The Fi2000 is bike specific. It works equally well with any high quality exhaust system from stock to Cobra's or anyone else's best system.
What does my friend mean when he says I need to re-map my fuel injection? Your friend is correct to a certain point, but misinformed with his terminology. First, he is correct in telling you need to adjust your motorcycle engine's air/fuel mixture. Especially if you have installed a free flowing air filter or an aftermarket exhaust system.
He is not so accurate with the phrase "re-map my fuel injection." Your bike comes with what is already a pretty remarkable fuel map. To get your engine to run properly at low rpm and during cruise, you simply need to adjust the air/fuel ratios to the proper levels.
What if I ride to a higher altitude? Your bike's stock fuel map makes adjustments in the stock settings for altitude changes. The Fi2000, because it is downstream of the ECU, continues to enhance and optimize those stock settings, even at altitude.
Does my Fi2000 stay on the bike? Where does it mount? Yes the Fi2000 remains on your bike. Your instructions will tell you where it mounts.
